As of right now in America the presidential primary race is in full swing. Each party has their own sets of leaders among the candidates. Surprisingly, on the republican side Donald Trump, also known as The Donald, is leading with 28 percent of support (Brown). Donald Trump is stepping out of his regular day to day business by entering the race. Normally, he is used to running his multi-million dollar corporation, The Trump Organization, making celebrity appearances, and simply just instigating controversy. The reason this primary race is occurring is because the 58th presidential election in the United States will occur next year in 2016. In order to form the ballot, nominees must compete for the final spot in next year’s election.
Some people are very confused by why The Donald has taken the lead for the Republican Party. According to the U.S. News and World Report article, Why is Trump Sailing and Clinton Failing?, his success is due to several factors. First of all, Donald Trump is very accessible to the American people (Cantanese). In no way, shape, or form is he trying to hide his controversial and blunt thoughts from the media or the voters (Cantanese). This makes sense for Donald, because as most of the nation knows, it does not matter to him whether he is agreed with, or liked by the general public.
Secondly, his quality of candor, or a quality of being open and honest is very appealing to voters (Cantanese, Candor). In fact, honest was the sixth most popular word used to describe Trump (Brown). Some would say that is a pretty noble adjective to be called, but the unnerving part of that study points out the other five most popular words that beat out honest. These words are arrogant, blowhard, idiot, businessman, and clown (Brown). It is confusing to think that the most popular republican candidate is most often referred to in such a negative connotation.
There is really no solution to Donald’s popularity because the campaign is still on going, and his standing could change in an instant with one wrong remark or poor decision. His stance in the race will be decided by the American voters, and how they choose to spend their vote.
If Donald Trump wins the primary election and maybe even the 2016 presidential election, then there will be overlap on all issues facing America. He will become the face of America, and represent us while negotiating with the rest of the world. This kind of overlap will not only face Donald, but with any candidate that wins the election. He will be the face of our government when dealing with issues such as immigration, healthcare, and ISIS. Donald Trump has been very open with his stance on all of these issues, so the nation will just have to wait and see how the election pans out for him. It will be interesting to see how Donald or any other candidate deals with these heated topics.
