When it comes to social issues, the United States is evolving rapidly. Every year it seems that social issues gain more momentum, and more support from people across the country. One aspect, however, seems to be stuck in that of 1950’s America. An America where Jim Crow laws were prevalent, and riots and protests were the norm. The United States Police Force has been accused of being excessively violent in how they handle their job, especially in recent years. By June of 2015 there had been at least 545 deaths caused by police. With this number, black people have twice the rate of being killed over white and Hispanic peoples. What can you do when an entire force in the nation acts and thinks the same way? We can’t just disband the police force as a whole. We need to break it down and retrain those who are already members. We need to train them how to react to violence, and not use excessive force to handle those situations. Next year is election year. Donald Trump is also running for presidency then. Mr. Trump in past interviews has made very racist remarks about Latino’s, even going as far to throw a Latino reporter out of a press conference. Racism in America is still a thing, and we need to be working on it now more than ever.
